The glass manufacturing

The glass manifacturing begins with the elaboration of an homogenous powdery load providing in required proportions all the necessary elements for the final glass composition.

In general, the main elements are provided as follows: The silica under sand form, the sodium oxide under carbonate form (with possible sulphate complement), the row- earth elements under lime or dolomite form (double natural calcium and magnesium oxide) The other possible additives are added under elaborated intermediary form. Thus, the melting qualities of the alkaline oxides are completed by incorporation of minimum quantity of finely crushed recycled glass. In the ordinary glass manifacturing, the quantity of the recycled glass can surpass this minimum which makes the wrapping glass recyclable.

The first row glasses have been made through melting of glass forming preparation and sandy core, eliminated after the melting. Later, the glass blowing marked a considerable progress. Nowadays the row glass is obtained by casting and glass blowing of small quantity of glass taken from the kiln. The first flat glasses were made by cutting then by lay out of a glass cylinder, obtained by glass-blow.

Then the process of drawing out and laminating succeeded and put the surface tension of the melted glass in good use. Today the "float" method is the best mean to obtain a perfectly flat glass: the melting glass has to be layed out on melted tin layer . A special glass can be obtained through specific methods: laminated glass, safety glass, glass fibre, porous glass...
